There are many names to describe Jesus in the Bible. But, it is so important for us to realize that Jesus was human. As a part of the Trinity, he represents God’s physical presence on this earth. Jesus lived and breathed just as we all do. Yes, He was perfect but, He wasn’t given privilege to only feel what was good, and not what was bad. He felt pain, sorrow, anger, turmoil, empathy, and love in just the same way as we do. That is the point!
Jesus Christ was sent to be the savior of mankind. To be completely honest, he was raised as “a lamb for slaughter”. He knew this and still walked the path that lead straight to his crucifixion. Luke 22:42 is proof of this. Jesus prays “…not my will, but Yours be done.” His death and resurrection actually provided a way for us to live eternally in Heaven!
Just as Jesus was God’s physical presence on this earth, it was his purpose to show and share God’s love for each and every one of us. Jesus continually shocked people he met because his purpose wasn’t to follow “social norms”. He showed love to the unlovable, compassion to the merciless, and grace to the ungraceful. Through all of this, His life was to be an example of what type of person we need to be, yet also show us the intensity of the love that God has for us.
Romans 10:9-10 says that “if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
All you have to do, to receive this “already paid for” gift of salvation, is say this prayer in your heart.
Dear God, I realize that until now, I have not been living my life for You or Your purpose. I know that I have made so many mistakes. Today is the day that I turn from my selfish ways and acknowledge Your will for my life. By faith, I gratefully accept Your gift of salvation. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave so that I might now enter Heaven. Thank you so much for loving me even though I was seemingly unloveable. I believe that Your promise of eternal life is true. God, please come and take control of my heart. Lord, be my Savior, Healer, and Redeemer forever. Amen!
