About Us2017-08-24T02:02:29+00:00

At First Assembly, we are focused on three key goals that are essential to a vibrant, active church. We WORSHIP the One God who loves us infinitely more than we deserve.  We EVANGELIZE, telling others about the good news of Jesus Christ.  Then, we NURTURE those who have responded to that good news, helping them to heal from the battles of life and to grow stronger in Him every day.  If we focus on these things and do them well, we will be obedient to His calling and effective in serving Him and His children. We use the acronym, W.E.N., to remind us of this mission.

The most important thing that any body of believers can do is to worship God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  We believe that there is only one God, who is expressed in three different ways (just as humans are composed of mind, body and spirit) and that He is worthy of all praise and worship because of His love for us.  The Bible tells us that we are to love Him with all of our mind, body and spirit.  It also tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people.  This means that we invite His presence in our lives as we praise and worship Him.  Worship is more than just telling God that we love and adore Him.  It is also showing Him that we love and adore Him in the way we live and treat others.  Without WORSHIP, we cease to be part of His body, the church, and become only a social club.

We obey Christ’s Great Commission- that we share with everyone the good news of His virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death, triumphant resurrection and soon-coming return for His children.  Evangelism is NOT hitting someone in the nose with a Bible and threatening them with Hell if they don’t agree with you and join your cause.  It IS simply sharing with folks the good news that Jesus will give them eternal life, provide for all their needs and give them amazing internal peace if only they will accept His offer.  It is NOT hard-sell, emotional manipulation.  It IS sharing some great news with someone who hasn’t heard it yet.  We believe that we must EVANGELIZE if we are to be obedient to Jesus and loving towards those around us.

You wouldn’t put a hard hat or a briefcase into the cradle of a newborn baby and expect them to head off to the workplace.  Neither would you shove someone who is sick or hurting out the door and expect them to “walk it off” on their way back to school or to the job.  As a body of believers in Jesus, we see people differently than that.  It is important that we show each person we meet that we love them as Christ loves them.  That means recognizing when someone is spiritually immature and needing patient training as he or she learns to grow stronger in Christ.  It also means recognizing when someone is emotionally or spiritually wounded and needing a shoulder to cry on or a strong arm to lean upon as they heal.  We believe that loving that person, praying with/for them and being there to help them as Christ leads is the best way for that person to become a stronger, more productive person at home, in the community and in the church.  When we NURTURE His children, both they and we grow spiritually, and we demonstrate Christ’s love, not just talk about it.
